We have just checked out one of the latest must visit place in Talakag, the Donggawon Viewing Deck located in Tagbak with DOT Region 10's Mr. D. Esmedalla & company, Talakag Tourism Office' Ms. Marnnie Macapayag & staff, Talakag Tourism Council Chair, Madam Grace Factura and Talakag Administrative Officer, Mr Alberto Bigcas.  With us also were DevCom lecturers and students from Xavier University who were doing their Photography Immersion in Talakag.

Basic Photography Workshop in Talakag

I felt honoured to have been invited to attend this workshop facilitated by the Talakag Municipal LGU and the Tourism Office.  The speakers (Karlo Jess, Roven, Justin, Eric and Jett) were from Xavier University, Development Communications Department.  They covered various topics from the origin of Photography, parts of the camera, and techniques on taking good photographs.  I have a Sony Digital camera that I just basically “point and shoot” but in just one afternoon, I have learned the fundamentals of Focus, Composition and Timing. The knowledge I acquired from this workshop has built up my confidence in Blogging and opened up possibilities.

The highlight of the workshop for me was the Photo Essay Activity towards the end.  We were sent out (with our XU DevCom mentors Mayen and Bianca) and challenged to take photographs applying the various techniques from exposure, metering, rule of third, symmetry, leading lines, pattern, texture, depth of field, juxtaposition, etc. and then tell a story using just 6 photos.  We had so much fun sharing and comparing our collection of photographs.  Below are some photos I took for consideration for the Photo Essay.  It's about the various people caught within the frame of one particular building in just half an hour.

I’m very grateful for this rare opportunity.  This workshop has really made me conscious now about taking photographs.  As the saying goes, “think before you click!”

Leigh & Lyle Boutique in Talakag

I found Leigh & Lyle Boutique by chance while taking a walk around Barangay 2 in Talakag.  I noticed this tarpaulin sign at the gate of Seno’s Residence along Amoran Street and decided to check it out.  It’s owned/managed by Megan (the daughter of Catalina Bacungan and Leo Seno).  Business hours are from Monday to Sunday between 9:00am – 6:00pm.

If like me you love anything quirky and vintage, you will love Leigh & Lyle Boutique.  I’m really excited about it.  There’s something for everyone.  Step inside and here’s what’s on offer:

• For the fashionistas, there’s both new and vintage clothes with shoes and bags to match, plus trinkets and accessories.
• For the home, there’s items like towels, bedsheets, ceramic wares, and home decor.
• For the bookworms, there’s a variety of books, paperbacks and fashion magazines.
• For the kids, there’s children’s clothes and soft toys.

And for the gardeners, there’s an amazing collection of mini cacti, succulent and air plants to choose from.

The shop’s all white interior gives you a luxurious feel and the design is cleverly planned.  I love how everything is so organised yet displayed with flair.

Overall, the concept is brilliant.  Whether you’re shopping for yourself for that party outfit, hunting for that perfect gift for someone or just want to make shopping simpler, there’s no need for rush down to Cagayan de Oro anymore when we now have this classy option right here in Talakag.

BOTOY’S LECHON Talakag Branch

You don't have to go down Cagayan de Oro anymore for a "lechon fix", as Botoy’s Lechon Manok, Pork BBQ, Liempo and their latest Grilled Boneless Bangus are now available here in Talakag.  It's branch opened today at 8:00 am on the 8^th day of the 8^th month, which is believed to bring luck to any business.  It attracted the public’s attention early as promos for the day included: a Buy One Get One Free offer for the first 50 customers while the rest got either 2 sticks of pork BBQ or a 1.5 litre softdrink with every order made.

Botoy’s lechon promises quality meat, marinaded in special herbs/spices and cooked to perfection.  I’ve tried the pork BBQ which has passed my taste standard.  I also recommend the Grilled Bangus as a healthier option and because it’s boneless, it’s good value for money.  Check out Botoy’s Lechon soon to see what I’m talking about.

Election Watch – Talakag 2016

The voting is over and done when the polling stations closed at 5:00pm today.  However, it’s going to be a long night of waiting for the official election results in Talakag.  It’s a long-drawn process as we await the return of ballot boxes, printouts, machines and sim cards from all the barangays to the Sanguniang Bayan Building where the overall results will be totalled.
