THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE NEW UGUIABAN BRIDGE

At long last there's good news for the Talakagnons!  The new Uguiaban Bridge was officially opened today.  This was built to replace the old bridge that got washed away by Typhoon Pablo in December 2012.  We have been waiting for this much needed infrastructure for 18 months.  This is  a huge relief to our local businessmen and farmers, and so with companies like Del Monte, Dole, SoBros Paper & Steel Mill, and Loggers.

We can only hope and pray that this new bridge will stand strong against the forces of nature and last longer than the last one.

Whilst we appreciate that the new Uguiaban Bridge is now open for crossing, there's still more work on the barriers, bases and finishing touches that need to be done, as you can see on the photos below.

Talakag Central School First Grand Alumni Homecoming 2014

Talakag Central Elementary School Reunion 2014

Its the 1st of April and the countdown begins towards the very first Talakag Central Elementary School Reunion.  Mark your calendars for the Alumni Homecoming on April 12 & 13.  If you graduated or (at some point) attended Talakag Central Elementary School, come visit your Alma Mater and reunite with your former classmates and schoolmates.  Its going to be a Summer to Remember!

Dominic's Kamayan Restaurant

Great news!  There's a new place to dine in Talakag.  Dominic's Kamayan Restaurant officially opened today.  This is situated in Barangay 4, where the Delaota's used to live which is just between the Plaza and the Public Market.

The native theme (see photos below) is obvious with the restaurant's bamboo/nipa construction, bamboo tables and chairs, old rustic lamps for lighting effect, and clay plant pots dotted around.  The theme extends to food being served on native woven plates lined with banana leaves so be prepared to eat your food with your hands (kamayan style).  The menu is simple and the prices reasonable.

Good luck to Dominic Lanas on his new venture.  With the restaurant's opening coinciding with the Fiesta and Linggo Ng Talakag events, he has strategically timed it well.

 

Linggo Ng Talakag 2014 Schedule of Activities

Welcome to the 97th Araw Ng Talakag!

 

If you’re planning to visit Talakag, then do it next week in time for the Linggo ng Talakag celebrations.  Check out the schedule of activities between March 17 and 23 below:

As you can see, there's a lot of activities to cater for everyone!

But for me, the Grand Parade and Opening Ceremony on March 17 is a must.  I will maybe try my luck at the Bingo on March 19.  The Trisikad Race and Lumba sa Baka on March 20 should be fun to watch and, if the weather stays dry, I will watch the Motocross on March 23.

For the women out there, you must come to the 5th Women's Summit on March 21.  Our new Congresswoman, the Honourable Malou Acosta will be one of the VIP Guests.  It should be interesting to hear what she has to say and offer the Talakag womenfolk.  Hope to see you there.

I'M BACK!

I always find it difficult to decide what topic to write about first when I have been away for so long.  So here's a start!  What’s important is that I’m back and will be updating more.  There’s more to tell but until then . . . . .
