Kaamulan Festival 2015 Schedule

The Kaamulan Festival celebrating the annual gathering of Bukidnon’s 7 hill tribes will be held from October 1-31 this year.  The main events are listed below:

October 1

October 3 – Kaamulan Fun Run

October 4 – 1st Kaamulan Phil. Circuit Mountain Festival (Mt Kalatungan, Mt Kitangland, Mt Dulang)

October 9 – 1st Kaamulan Dart Tournament

October 10 – Opening of Kaamulan Horsemanship Competition

October 17 – Opening of Kaamulan Rodeo

October 18 – Rodeo Night

October 19 – National Day of IPs

October 20

• Kaamulan Ethno Cultural Festival

October 21 – Ethnic Sports

October 23

• Tribal Convention
• Piniliyapan Hu Bukidnon

Whilst Talakag was last year’s Centennial Major Winners of the Street Dancing and Float Competitions, it will be not be competing for these categories this year.  However, watch out for our own Laga Ta Talakag, Miss Artango, who will be competing at the Kaamulan’s Laga Ta Bukidnon 2015.

A Talakagnon Is Amongst The Top 10 Social Worker 2015 Board Exam Scorers

Early this week, the results from the Social Worker Licensure Examination administered by the Board for Social Workers held July 29-30, 2015 have been released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

We are proud to see that KRISTINE ELLEN ACERET NGASO of Talakag, Bukidnon who graduated from Lourdes College in Cagayan de Oro City is among the top ten (10) highest scorers (see list below and click HERE for a complete list of results).

Basketball Clinic in Talakag

My apologies for lagging behind with my blogging for the last 3 months, but life got in the way.  I’ve been away travelling but now that I’m back, welcome to my latest post.

Dayong Mendoza in Red

Dayong Mendoza, Assistant Coach for San Miguel Beer, was in Talakag today to conduct a basketball clinic as part of the LGU’s Youth Sports Programme.  He coached children at Elementary level this morning and continued with the High School level in the afternoon.  The clinic is aimed at developing young players’ basketball skills and techniques, thus raising the standard of our local basketball games in the near future.

Perhaps this experience will inspire them to maybe follow the footsteps of our very own famous Talakagnon celebrity, Bitoy Omolon, who also plays for San Miguel Beer.  Watch out Bitoy, some of these youngsters will soon be after your job!

Thanks to the LGU officials and staff who organized this event, and also to the Bighoop Foundation for their support and specially for inviting Dayong Mendoza and company.

Scenic Drive to Basak, Talakag

Yesterday, we went for a drive and (for a change) we drove beyond Talakag Poblacion towards Sto Nino.

Since the road is now concrete, we continued for a bit and before we realised it, we were already in Dagumbaan.

Eventually, we got to the Y-Junction looking at the signpost Cosina 22 kms straight ahead but the road looked rough and muddy.  So we decided to follow the concrete road to the right leading to Dominorog 35 kms, Ticalaan, Miarayon, Kalilangan 70 kms, amongst places listed on the signpost.  I have visited some of these places before but haven't been back for a very, very long time.  Driving around the bend took us downhill where you can see the winding road below.

This led us to Tal-uban Bridge.  We used to picnic at this river or even fetched water from here during the drought spell some 40 years ago ;-)  Unfortunately, the river is brown today due to heavy rain the previous night but you can just imagine its beauty if the water’s clear.  I heard there's a cave around here and it's known for a certain type of bats that can only be found in this area.  I've never been to the cave but if any of you out there have, please share your experience here.

The road across the bridge is concrete too so out of curiosity we decided to drive on, just to check out how far the concrete road goes.  We saw this jeepney coming so we followed it.

We drove past Basak and found that concrete road ends there so we turned back and were greeted with these awesome views.

On our way back, we happened to spot along the way the Contractor who was supervising some culvert work in the Basak area.  We got talking and he told us that some parts of the road after Basak are already concrete but some parts are still work-in-progress.  He estimates that it will take 2 hours to drive to Miarayon at its current state but said that the whole project will be completed by 2016.

You can follow the progress from this Blog.  I will be organising a circular convoy road trip from Talakag to Miarayon to Valencia, Malaybalay, Cagayan de Oro and back to Talakag once the whole concrete road is complete and officially opens.  I hope you will be able to join us.
